Dejen Tekle is a PhD student and research fellow at The George Institute for Global Health. He works for the Public Health Advocacy and Policy Impact team in supporting salt reduction research and advocacy activities, in Africa and globally.
Dejen commenced his PhD at the University of New South Wales, faculty of Medicine in February 18, 2019 focusing on understanding the potential of salt reduction interventions to reduce the burden of NCDs in Africa.
His research aspirations involve undertaking strong-quality research that can usefully inform the development of effective food-based strategies and policies to improve population-wide health and nutrition for the prevention of diet related NCDs.
Previous research experience: Prior to joining The George Institute, Dejen worked as lecturer and researcher at the School of Public Health, College of Health Sciences of Mekelle University. His area of research was on the relationship of poor water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) on nutritional and health outcomes.
